Vitsø was once a fjord that was drained over decades, losing many rare meadow plants. Since 2009, the area has been allowed to re-wet and has developed into a 150-hectare nature area with a lake, salt marshes, and bird islands. Today, Vitsø is an important resting place for migratory birds and a quiet nature area that you can circle on well-marked paths.

From inside the hut you have an excellent view of the surrounding wetland and the wide meadows, which serve as resting and breeding grounds for numerous bird species. Depending on the time of year, a wide variety of bird species can be observed here, from waders to ducks and birds of prey. Information boards in the hut provide information about the bird species present.

The octagonal Dutch windmill in the small port town of Søby dates back to 1881. When it was built on the hill, it was still outside of town. Today it is surrounded by a green area in the middle of the residential area. In 2021, the gallery surrounding the mill, which is also the town's landmark, was renovated.
