Benešov nad Ploučnicí has been a town since at least 1392, when it was granted the town rights of Mladá Boleslav by Jan of Michalovice. In connection with the development of the town government and the activities of the town office, the need for a town seal arose. Its use is documented only in 1452. The seal has not survived to the present day, but we know its description - "a smooth heart-shaped shield, above which a bear's head could be seen". The oldest Benešov town seals that have survived come from three typewriters made in 1590. All three typewriters are still kept in the State District Archive in Děčín. In the seal field of all three sealers, the half-shield is smooth on the right, latticed on the left, and above the upper edge of the shield, the upper half of the figure stands out, which is interpreted as the head, part of the body and front paws of a bear.

Benešov nad Ploučnicí is first indirectly mentioned in 1283, when "Ostrý castle with town" (castrum Scharfenstein et civitatis) is mentioned. The unnamed town is considered by historians to be Benešov nad Ploučnicí (although interpretations of Česká Kamenice have also been made).

The sandstone road bridge with a group of saints' statues dates from 1564-1569, but was built using late Gothic style elements. Above the central pillar is a group of statues by Michal Jan Brokoff from 1714. HISTORY The construction was carried out between 1564 and 1569 by the builder S. Hölle and the master stonemason H. Franck. The Baroque group of statues from 1714 comes from the Brokoff workshop, specifically from M. J. J. Brokoff, the pedestal was previously attributed to J. B. Santini-Aichel without credible justification. HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT The bridge stands on the site of an older stone predecessor, also destroyed by a flood in 1561. Not far away on the same road to the north, there was another shorter bridge over a side branch of the Ploučnice River, which was later covered with alluvium. It is depicted on maps of the stable cadastre, its existence was confirmed by the discovery of stones and slabs during the construction of a new road bridge in the 1980s.

Deep under the modern road bridge over the Old Town and the Elbe River in Děčín, there is a hidden stone bridge over the Ploučnice River, dating back to the 16th century.
