July 22, 2026, Ephemeral Pond Trail

This trail's name might be a play on the fact that there's really no pond here, at least not through most of the year. There are lovely grasslands and stands of trees, though, along with connections to the Coyote and Hoodoo trails.

July 22, 2026, Coyote Trail

This serves as the main trail in this area. You'll enjoy the same sweeping views over the foothills of Black Knight Mountain, but because this trail veers closer to civilization, you'll also pass by new subdivisions and even an orchard.

This trail is named for the alien-looking, weather-sculpted rock formations you can see along its length. Connect it with the Coyote and Ephemeral Pond trails to make a complete loop.

The trail is doubletrack almost the entire way up the mountain, and you get some interspersed shade here as you climb through a thin strand of recently burned pines.

You can find a small gravel lot here with a restroom. The trailhead sits at the base of a winding series of elevated steps that take you up the ridgeline to the rest of the Lebanon Creek trail system.

This viewpoint has a bench to rest on and take in views of Layer Cake Mountain in the distance through the trees. The viewpoint is pretty close to the parking area, so it's very accessible.
