A viewing platform to the side of the bridge for a different vantage point of the collapsed viaduct. There are binoculars built in on the platform.

Once billed as the Eighth Wonder of the World as the Tallest Railroad Trestle in its Day, this site is now an example of nature's awesome power. In 2003 a tornado caused the viaduct to collapse, leaving a pile of twisted steel columns on the valley floor below. The remaining towers now end with a viewing platform with a glass floor for those brave enough to gaze down to the ground and destruction 300 feet below.

Yes, dogs are generally welcome on trails in the Allegheny National Forest, which covers much of McKean County, as long as they are leashed. A good option is the Blacksnake Mountain Trail loop, an easy circular walk. Always check specific park regulations before you go.
While most trails focus on forest and reservoir scenery, you can visit nearby waterfalls. Bent Run Waterfall is a highly-regarded spot just outside the county, easily accessible from the road with options to hike up alongside it, especially after recent rainfall.
The region offers several excellent loop trails. For a moderate challenge through varied forest terrain, consider the Tracy Ridge short loop. It provides a complete circuit without the need to backtrack.
Yes, the renowned North Country National Scenic Trail passes through McKean County. You can tackle a segment of it on the North Country Trail Out and Back from Sugar Run Rd., which offers a challenging day hike through the Allegheny National Forest.
McKean County is known for its stunning vistas. Besides the popular Rimrock Overlook, hikers often seek out the Minister Creek Scenic Overlook. It's a local favorite that rewards you with impressive views after a hike through the forest and past notable rock formations.
Winter hiking offers a completely different experience, with quiet, snow-covered trails. Many trails remain accessible, but you should be prepared with appropriate gear like microspikes for ice and snowshoes for deeper snow. Lower elevation trails are often the most manageable.
The trails here cater to a range of abilities, but most fall into the easy or moderate categories. There are about 15 marked routes, with roughly half being gentle enough for beginners and families, and the other half offering more of a challenge with greater distance and elevation changes.

Most major trailheads and recreation areas, such as those for the Rimrock Trail or at Kinzua Bridge State Park, have designated parking lots. For less common trail access points, parking may be limited to small pull-offs on the roadside. It's always best to arrive early on weekends.
The dense forests of the Allegheny National Forest are home to a variety of wildlife. It's common to see white-tailed deer and various bird species. If you're lucky and quiet, you might also spot a black bear, so it's important to be bear-aware and store food properly.
For hikers seeking a strenuous workout with rewarding views, the Mount Tuscarora Trail is an excellent choice. This long trail involves over 500 meters of climbing, making it one of the more demanding hikes in the region.
