SchiePlaza Skatepark Schiedam is located at the intersection of 's-Gravelandseweg and Burgemeester van Haarenlaan, next to the fire station. This 1150 m² concrete outdoor skatepark, with its elongated shape, is inspired by China Banks Skatepark in San Francisco. What makes SchiePlaza Skatepark unique is that it's built on the subway tunnel roof, on a slope of approximately 4%. Skaters and skateboarders often practice their latest tricks here, but unfortunately, no one was there on this day. There is such a special tree in the Plantage. This world tree is an Oriental Plane and is called “De Plantage Plataan” because of its location in the park. This plantain was planted around 1870. The world tree community of the Plantage, together with the tree protector, prevents the tree from being damaged.

The Poldervaart was constructed in 1280. An important function of the Poldervaart was, initially, the drainage of the polders belonging to the five 'ambachten' (districts) Vrijenban, Hof van Delft, Berkel, Kethel, and Pijnacker. Drainage solely via the Schie proved insufficient; the Poldervaart formed an additional discharge channel and thus contributed to the water management of Delfland. An additional advantage was the extra shipping connection, from Delft to an junction with the Nieuwe Maas between Vlaardingen and Schiedam. Sluice gates and inlets regulated the water level in the Poldervaart. The Poldervaart connected to the Nieuwe Maas near the Beneluxtunnel and the metro station 'Vijfsluizen'. The sluice 'De Vijf Sluizen' was located there. Source: https://www.waterrimpels.nl/wandelen-wandeltochten/poldervaart-1280-schiedam/
