Accessing Fair Hill through Big Elk Creek was new to me, and a fun adventure. It starts as a grass track through a meadow, mostly downhill, or easy peddling, but transitions into some rough single track. Extremely rocky descents, and rooted steep inclines. There was a giant mud trap and a small creek crossing to add to the experience. Once in Fair Hill, there’s an abundance of gravel riding or single track get lost in for hours.

Great destination on a bike, or short walk from the parking lot. Scenic overlook, and places to sit for a spot of lunch. There is a toilet in the parking lot also.

Some days the bugs here are absolutely atrocious, other days you could hang out there all day. If you’re hiking or want to explore it for a bit, might be worth having but spray.

Plenty of parking at Schaffer’s restaurant or overflow parking nearby. A nice creamery 16 miles down the trail, or another on the opposite side of the bridge (not a great bridge to cycle over though so be warned). Trail is flat and a nice 15 mile there and back route (30 mile ride).

Maryland's Ben Cardin C&D Canal Recreational Trail was named after U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and connects to Delaware's Michael Castle Trail along the north bank of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, meeting at the state line. Starting at the trailhead on Lock Street in North Chesapeake City, the paved pathway runs 1.8 miles along the waterfront to the Delaware border. Access to the trailhead is via Route 213; follow the signs to parking at Lock Street and the C&D Canal. The C&D Canal, which the trail runs along, was dug in the early 1800s and widened in the early 1900s, and is currently managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
