I did a solo tour of the Wabash and Ohio rivers in Indiana in 2023. My plan was to follow the rivers along the Indiana state line. I found out right away that the roads along the river were often not suitable for loaded gravel biking. In many places the roads shown on my paper maps and on Komoot were not continuous, as shown, which led to detours. I ended up riding mostly on state roads, which provided better pavement, were more reliable, and usually were low traffic and/or had some kind of shoulder, but not always. I ended up riding a 700 mile loop from Indianapolis to the Wabash, south to the Ohio, east to Ohio, and back to Indianapolis.
