How long this site has been a mill site is shrouded in obscurity, but after the Reformation in the 16th century the mill was transferred from the church to the crown. In 1737, Biskopskvarn was bought by Gustaf Rålamb in Bystad. A new mill was built in 1780. This was in operation until the beginning of the 1940s. It was demolished in 1949. Today only the foundation stones remain.

Övre Hävla mill or Hävla hammarsmedja is a local history museum and architectural monument by Hävla stream in Skedevi parish in Östergötland's mountain range. In 1682, the governor Jacob Henriksson Flemming (1640–89) received permission to manufacture wrought iron at Hävla ström in Skedevi parish. In the 19th century, the business was expanded and at the end of the 19th century, Hävla was one of the country's largest suppliers of horseshoes. The smithy was in use until 1924. The mill is almost completely preserved in the condition it was in when the mill was closed down in 1924.
