The monument to the founders of Kiev (Ukrainian Пам’ятний знак на честь заснування міста Києва) is a group of sculptures built on May 22, 1982 for the 1500th anniversary of Kiev and a landmark of the Ukrainian capital Kiev. It is supposed to commemorate the legendary founders of Kiev. It represents a nine meter long boat that is carried by three waves. Kyj and his brothers Shchek and Horiv stand in the stern of the boat, while sister Lybiddie stands at the bow of the boat with outstretched arms. The monument created by Vasyl Sakharovych Borodai stands on a red granite slab in a round fountain on the Dnepr promenade in Navodnyzkyj Park and is made of forged copper and not brass, as the sculptor actually intended.
