This is a wonderful spot in the eastern Sperrins characterised by rolling peat-blanketed hills that make for a wild and scenic walk. It's likely you won't bump into too many other people here, too. The walk is well sign-posted and sturdy waterproof shoes are recommended.

On the way back, after Point 4, there is a large segment over private land. No access allowed. On the way back, the route goes over private land where walking is not allowed. We were turned back by the landowner and were not allowed to continue on his property (from point 4 to 5 on the route)! We had to walk about 6 km extra to get to the starting point (A)!

What are the trail conditions like in the Granny region?

Most trails in the Sperrins follow a mix of well-defined forest paths, gravel tracks, and open hillside routes. The forest trails, like those in Iniscarn Forest, generally offer more shelter and firmer ground.

Are dogs allowed on the hiking trails?

These hikes typically involve significant elevation gain, longer distances, and potentially challenging navigation across open mountain terrain. Proper gear and experience in hillwalking are essential for these tougher treks.

Can I complete any of the hikes as a circular loop?

Yes, there are several loop trails available. A great option is the Slieve Gallion NE top loop via Iniscarn Forest β€” Ring of Gullion. This route combines forest paths with an ascent to the summit, providing varied scenery before bringing you back to your starting point.
