Calle Mayor is the main artery of the city. With its more than 900 meters in length, it constitutes the backbone of the capital, the social network most visited by the people of Palencia and the location of a good part of the civil heritage that the city treasures. It preserves the spirit and architecture of the bourgeoisie of the 19th and 20th centuries and is supported on one of its sides thanks to the 199 columns that flank it. At its northern end is the Post and Telegraph building, built in 1916 by Jacobo Romero, who also planned the construction of the Catholic-Agrarian Federation, current headquarters of Unicaja Banco. Between both places, there is another interesting space whose façade demands our attention. It is the Convent of the Agustinas Canónigas, which today houses the offices of the city council.

The Plaza Mayor and the Town Hall are the nerve center of the city. This civic and commercial space dates back to the 17th century, when after one of his visits to Palencia, Charles I decided to promote its creation. It responds to the typical style that defines the main squares of the region, as it exhibits a rectangular shape and is supported on three of its four sides, the last being occupied by the Town Hall building, in a neoclassical style and inaugurated in 1878. Inside and presiding over the main staircase is a mural by the Palencia painter Germán Calvo, which describes the history and tribulations of the city. The Plaza Mayor is dominated by the monument to Alonso Berruguete, one of the main sculptural groups of Victorio Macho. Its almost four meters in height and its contrast of white in the stone and black in the Berruguete statue allow it to dominate the entire square in front of the City Hall.

In 1895, the young municipal architect Juan Agapito y Revilla drew up the plans for the projection of this central market. That same year, on September 4, the first stone was laid for works that still had to wait three more years before opening to the public. Its innovative architecture, inspired by the use of materials such as cast iron or glass, represented a true revolution for the physiognomy of a city like Palencia. This popular square, which has a total of seventy stalls, has a rectangular floor plan and is a perfect showcase to discover some of the most emblematic products of the area's gastronomy. On its exterior, several series of tiles stand out that represent the trades that historically met in the Plaza.

The castle located in the town of Fuentes de Valdepero has a close relationship with the Sarmiento family, who were prominent landowners in the area since the 13th century. The castle was built between 1442 and 1465 by Diego Pérez Sarmiento, third lord of the town and Count of Santa Marta. Archaeological excavations confirm this chronology and reveal the presence of family coats of arms in the castle.
