The history of the city, which is worth seeing, is closely linked to the Way of St. James. The city was founded at the end of the 11th century by the King of Navarre as a Frankish settlement that was intended to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims.

It is without a doubt the top to visit if you are walking through the Iratxe area. With an altitude of 1045 meters above sea level. the views are impressive and you can enjoy a beautiful landscape. It is next to the San Cipriano and towards the opposite side is the geodesic vertex of the same name. A place worth visiting!

Although some archaeological remains from the Bronze Age have been found in Estella, Estella-Lizarra has its official origin in 1090. When the king Sancho Ramírez bestowed the city the "Fuero" - some laws that gave some privileges to the French people , which allowed the economic diversification from the kingdom and made the most of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. That is why the king had no doubts about the original road leading through Zarapuz-seigneury from the monastery from San Juan de la Peña, change in the direction of the Irache Monastery, and divert it to the new settlement.
