It is the oldest religious building in Galdakao and was built in the 13th century to replace the old church of Santa Marina de Ganguren. The church was rebuilt and enlarged in 1516. Its style is a blend of Romanesque-Gothic and Renaissance elements. The façade is in the late Romanesque style, and the bell tower retains traces of the original 12th-century building.
