December 24, 2025, Plaza Mayor

This square, known as "La Plaza" to the people of Ciudad Real, has been the heart of public life in the city since its founding as a Saturday market square in the 13th century by King Alfonso X of Castile and León. It has undergone several urban redevelopment projects, including the renovation of its facades, in an attempt to create a unified and aesthetically pleasing look; from the first one around 1728 to the last in 1988.

Almagro's Plaza Mayor is the most visited and one of the busiest squares in the city. It dates back to the Middle Ages, with arcades and corridors, and underwent a major transformation in the 16th century as a result of the arrival of the Fuggers, German bankers who were subjects of Emperor Charles V. Throughout history, it has received other names, such as Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza de la República, Plaza Real, and even Plaza de España after the Spanish Civil War. The square measures approximately 104.5 meters by 37 meters. It has an irregular rectangular layout. On one of its larger sides, it opens onto the so-called Palacio Maestral (Master Palace). This square also houses the Town Hall, but perhaps what deserves special mention is that in the former inn in this main square of Almagro, we find none other than the Corral de Comedias (Comedy Playhouse), the only one of its kind in the world, declared a monument in 1955. In this square, there are shops where you can buy crafts and typical food from the town and the surrounding area. There are also several bars and restaurants with impressive terraces where you can enjoy tapas and wine, or enjoy a home-cooked menu or typical dishes from La Mancha.

The Flor de Rivera Mill is one of the old hydraulic mills located in Daimiel, Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha. This mill, although in ruins, is part of the region's historical heritage and is a point of interest on the hiking and cycling routes that cross the Tablas de Daimiel National Park.

The construction of the sanctuary dates back several centuries, although the exact date of its foundation is not clearly documented. Over the years, the sanctuary has been a place of pilgrimage and devotion for the faithful, who come to pay homage to the Virgin of the Sierra, especially during religious festivals. The sanctuary has witnessed numerous renovations and extensions over time, reflecting different architectural styles ranging from Gothic to Baroque. In addition, valuable works of religious art can be found inside, including altarpieces, sculptures and paintings depicting the life of the Virgin and other saints. One of the most notable traditions is the pilgrimage that is held annually, where devotees carry out a procession to the sanctuary to honor the Virgin of the Sierra. This festival is a time of great cultural and religious importance for the local community.⛪

The parish was built in the 17th century and is the most famous building in Fuente el Fresno. It is built on the side of the mountain and has a double function: religious and defensive. The temple is mainly made of masonry, although some corners of the façade have been reinforced with brick. Inside the temple, you can find the image of Santa Quiteria and a baroque main altarpiece. In addition, it houses crosses of military orders, reflecting its history and relevance in the community. I hope this information is useful to you!😊

The Bañuelos River Bridge from Roman times surprises us with its ten eyes, today battered awaiting rehabilitation, formed by brick vault arches, joined with lime and sand mortar. On the right bank of the river next to the bridge is the Carrillo Mill, named after its first owner. It is a construction from 1713, made with masonry walls and thick cylindrical buttresses, covered with wooden trusses and curved tiles that preserve the original machinery.
