Lake of Banyoles is located in northeastern Catalonia, Spain and is the region's largest natural lake, covering approximately 1.575 square kilometers. Formed over 250,000 years ago due to tectonic activity, it is fed by subterranean channels with natural in/outflow. Surrounded by green hills the lake is a popular destination for rowing. The lake hosted the rowing competitions during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Its clear waters and scenic surroundings make it a favored spot for swimming, boating, and hiking.

Splendid. Walk around the pond, almost entirely shaded. No difficulty, accessible to children, whether on foot or by bike. Possibility of supervised swimming.

Beautiful rural complex (with Hotel) around the church and bell tower of St Vicens de Camós. Just before reaching the complex, turn left, towards the cemetery, and take the track that takes you to the hermitage of Sta Maria. It is not a walk, rather broken track with short but steep slopes.

On hot days, going around the pond refreshes you, you get shade and the water is scarce. And if you don't lower the temperature you can always take a bath. There are three bathing areas, one public and two private.

The formation of the lake took place by the collapse of the upper layers of the subsoil, impermeable, inside the cavities that the water formed in the permeable rocks below it.
