Here you walk on the old railway bed of the line that connected the Somain station to the Belgian railway network. This line, built between 1869 and 1875, was 57 km long and the last station before the border was Halluin. The main purpose of this line was to supply the textile industry with coal and raw materials. A large part of the line was closed in 1939 and only the Tourcoing-Halluin section remained for passenger transport until 1971. It connected Tourcoing to Halluin in 26 minutes for the 12 km journey. You should definitely step inside. It is truly an impressive whole. Also look up inside: plaster floral ornaments have been applied to the vaults.
