You have to be very careful with the roots of the acacias which lift the bitumen in places as well as the thorns of these trees. Otherwise very pleasant.

Some sections of the track are damaged by tree roots and dangerous on a road bike. I often prefer to go by road.

5 km north of Barbezieux, we find this beautiful 13th century church in the small hamlet of Saint-Médard. From here, you can take the greenway to Clérac.

A bike path, only for bikes and in the countryside! 35 kms from Barbezieux to Clérac in complete peace of mind on a paved road, a real pleasure! Surprising but very pleasant especially for families with children who can walk there in peace.

The castle of Barbezieux, dominating the plain on the borders of Saintonge and Angoumois is, since the 10th century and throughout the Middle Ages, at the head of a powerful independent châtellenie at the heart of all the power struggles in the region. Between the 11th and 13th centuries, attracted by the protection offered by its influential lords, a large population came to nestle at the foot of the walls. Thus was born the town of Barbezieux, commercial and prosperous at the crossroads of several traffic axes. The end of the 15th century saw its revival thanks to the work of Marguerite de la Rochefoucauld, Lady of Barbezieux. It restores the stately home as well as various buildings in the farmyard. From this work campaign dates the current Archiac Gate and the theater.

Rural building composed of a rectangular nave (12th century) opening onto a semicircular apse, and completed by a bell tower (late 15th century) preceded by a porch. A chapel and painted decoration also date from the end of the 15th century. In the 16th century, the chapel was extended by a second bay and the whole was vaulted. The chevet is raised and fortified into a defense chamber, the bell tower altered. In the 17th and 18th centuries, addition of the porch and the sacristy. The painted decoration from the 15th century presents the theme of the Last Judgment in four panels.
