The Timmendorf-Poel Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is located at the southwestern end of the island of Poel, near the town of Timmendorf, at the small harbor in the Timmendorf Strand district. It marks the entrance to the Bay of Wismar and is one of two major lighthouses on the island. History To better indicate the entrance to the Bay of Wismar, a round white tower tapering at the top with a hexagonal lantern house was built in the middle of the one-story pilot house. The Timmendorf Lighthouse was put into operation on October 1, 1872, and in 1931, it was raised by 3.6 meters to its current height of 21 meters. This section remained unpainted, unlike the white-painted lower section. The tower has been remotely controlled since 1978. From 1996 to 1997, the listed brick tower had to be stabilized and partially rebuilt. During the work, the entire lighthouse technology was replaced. It displays the common-mode light (iso/glt. 6 seconds) and has a range of approximately 16 nautical miles at sigma 0.741. Since 2020, the Baltic Sea Waterways and Shipping Authority has been responsible for the lighthouse's maintenance and upkeep. Source: Wikipedia

Very beautiful to look at, but also perfect for a fish sandwich or ice cream break. Be sure to watch out for the hungry seagulls!
