The northern gateway of Châteauneuf. A narrow path leads up to the gate in the wall fence. From here you have a wonderful view of the valley and the Canal Bourgogne.

North From the end of the Middle Ages, an enclosure surrounded Châteauneuf, completed by several towers and three gates. This gate built at the end of the 16th century is one of the rare vestiges of the village fortifications. Today it no longer has any military or defensive elements (portcullis, gunboats, etc.). An old inscription, which has disappeared, dated the building to 1587. It also contained the coat of arms and motto of the Vienne family, then owner of the village. During the Revolution, this decoration was removed and replaced by the inscription "Citizens".
