Beautiful place full of history. Easy access from Place de la Mairie and Alley François Rabelais. Nearby edge of the Loire. "Located on the banks of the Loire, below the Château de la Grand’Cour, this fountain was classified as a historic site in 1933. François Rabelais would have meditated and written, between 1543 and 1545, the Third Book of Pantagruel. He liked to sit on a stone bench near the fountain from where, at that time, he had a clear view of the prestigious landscape of the Loire. Near the bench was a slate table where Rabelais could place his writing desk and also the pitcher of local gray wine." “According to tradition Rabelais wrote the Third Book of Pantagruel in Saint-Ay. He recommended to those who read it to open the box to take out the drug and to break the bone to suck out the substantial marrow.
