The city harbor on the banks of the Warnow with its museum and sailing harbor is a popular promenade with restaurants, shops and large warehouses. All cargo handling was concentrated here until the seaport opened in 1960. The best view of the city harbor can be seen from Kanonsberg near the Fischerbastion. This used to be a strategically important defense point for the harbor entrance. Three old cannons are a reminder of this. The wooden treadle crane from the 18th century and the bridge crane from the 1950s are testaments to the handling technology of days gone by. In summer you can take a leisurely stroll here and end the day in the restaurants and bars. In the evenings the city harbor is a popular meeting place for young and old.

This little gem is hidden behind the town hall. The richly decorated, seven-axis stepped gable still bears witness to the fact that a wealthy patrician once had his home here. The mayor of Rostock, Bertold Kerkhoff, had it built in 1470. Today, the Hanseatic city's registry office and the city archives are located here. The city archives contain, among other things, over 3,000 documents, 22,000 pictures and 2,500 linear meters of official records. The most famous piece is probably the Vicke-Schorler roll, an approximately 18m long roll made up of assembled sheets of paper with pen drawings of the city's houses.

The Seagull Fountain by sculptor Waldemar Otto has stood in the northwest corner of the Neuer Markt since 2001. The sculptures of Greek sea gods symbolize the city's proximity to the sea. Rostock residents are sometimes bothered by the gloomy appearance and the naked depiction of the figures, but the fountain has served as a popular meeting place ever since.
