Near the moat of the Château de Sedan is the Dauphine Fountain. The current fountain, dating from 1787, replaces a first, the original, built in honor of the Grand Dauphin, son of Louis XIV. Water from the fountain comes out through the mouth of a male face. It is made of stone and is topped with a rather neutral pediment. According to the anecdote, on the day of the inauguration, wine was served to the people there instead of water. Source: https://www.monnuage.fr/point-d-interet/fontaine-du-dauphin-a123651

The mansion (18th century) at number 33 is located on the square and the Promenoir des Prêtes. It was owned by the Poupart-Neuflize family and was both a home and a warehouse. The main building has side wings that first form a quarter circle and then become straight, just like the Dijonval, a former royal cloth factory north of the historic center.

Poupart de Neuflize, sheet manufacturer, receives the privilege of building a royal factory. The Poupart hotel on Place de la Halle is in the Louis XV style. Inside, two semi-circular wings delimit a courtyard opening, at the rear, onto the Promenoir des Prêtres.

This mighty fortress, the largest in Europe (35,000 m2, seven floors), was built on a rocky spur between the Bièvre and the Vra. The citadel is one of the oldest examples of French fortifications and could accommodate 4,000 soldiers. For five centuries, the fortress was strategically located between France and the Holy Roman Empire (and then Prussia and Germany) and was therefore constantly provided with new fortifications and thicker walls, while the existing structure was preserved. Wall 30 m high and up to 7.20 m thick with 4 bastions.
