This is a replica of a medieval trebuchet - war machine. In 1209, thousands of knights from Northern France and all over Europe came to this area to force the Cathars to the Catholic faith. The Cathars were persecuted, killed, and mostly burned at the stake. During a 5-week siege in 1210, stones and dead animals were thrown at the city, which also brought plagues with it. In early summer, the rivers had dried up and the only well at the foot of the city was destroyed by the besiegers. They were forced to surrender.

Simple accommodation with a great restaurant. We stayed there on our long-distance hike from Tarifa (Spain) to Switzerland and can highly recommend the accommodation and the restaurant.

The small town of Minerve has several natural and architectural treasures, including its famous bridges. The Grand and Petit bridges were dug by the Cesse and the Brian, while the viaduct bridge was built by man. Here, the two spectacles come together in the same landscape.
