The Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits Market Hall in Vendée dates back to 1765 and covers an area of 1,340 m². It is supported by a remarkable oak frame that required approximately 150 trees and features 41 Doric limestone columns, reflecting the neoclassical style of the time. Located in the center of the town, it forms the historic and commercial heart of the village and hosts a weekly market as well as monthly fairs. The market halls have been restored several times, with the last major renovation taking place in 2006. Listed as a historic monument since 1943, they symbolize the ancient merchant tradition of Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits.

At the end of your beautiful walk around the lake, treat yourself: go to Poiroux and visit La Folie de Finfarine which is a walk in the world of bees. Giant hive, honey collection, films about bees, ... lots of wonders that delight young and old and an excellent Vendée honey in the shop.

The Tour de Moricq has always been surrounded by legends. It was once said that an underground passage would connect it to the Angles church. Also, strange signs engraved on the north facade are said to be a plan to find a treasure buried in its depths. According to tradition, it would be a golden chest which would only be accessible at the time of the Sanctus of Midnight Mass, at Christmas. According to another legend, the tower was built by fairies in a single night.

Classified as a Historic Monument in 1915. Originally a sentinel at the edge of the mainland, then a prison and finally a granary, the Moricq Tower has suffered greatly, throughout its history, from the repeated insults of time and men. For more information on visits: 02 51 97 56 39
