The Leulène or chemin de Leulène is an ancient Roman or pre-Roman road, located in France, in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, almost in a straight line for 50 km, going from Thérouanne to Sangatte, perhaps identifiable as Caesar's Portus Itius. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the busiest routes leading to England. The path leads to the seaside, in Sangatte, near the Channel Tunnel. A district of Sangatte bears the name chemin de Leulène.

After the effort, come the reward. Don't hesitate to enjoy an Angelus (a lager) and a Welsh beer (or other local specialties) in this typical and welcoming tavern. There's a small terrace in summer and free parking.

Situated along the River Houlle, the Serques Marshes are part of the larger Audomarois Marshes. This area is renowned for its rich biodiversity and beautiful scenery. The nearby village of Houlle is a popular destination for tourists looking for a peaceful waterside holiday. The River Houlle, a tributary of the Aa, flows through these marshes and provides a picturesque setting for walks and boat trips. The area is also known for the production of Houlle gin, a traditional spirit. The marshes themselves are an important natural area and are home to a variety of plant and animal species. It is an ideal place for nature lovers and bird watchers.

As a memorial to the many dead, such a “MONUMENT AUX MORTS” (usually called a “cenotaph” or “war memorial” in German-speaking countries) is still very important today. “Now you, Lord, let your servant depart in peace, as you said...” it says in the so-called “Song of Simeon” (Gospel of Luke chapter 2, verse 29). However, the people who are remembered here did not die in peace, but rather became victims of war and tyranny. This is why the term “Fallen Monument” is now sometimes used instead of the “war memorial” that was previously common in German. In the French-speaking world, however, this aspect of commemorating the dead has long been included through the commonly used term "MONUMENT AUX MORTS". Regardless of language and nation, such a monument has two important and at the same time eternal tasks: -1- To keep the memory of the suffering and horror of the war alive, -2- and to call for the lasting preservation of peace.
