The Alte Inselkirche is the second oldest church on an East Frisian island. It was built in 1826. Before that, a storm surge had destroyed most of the houses on the island. A total of four churches had already fallen victim to the so-called "Blanken Hans". Today, the church is used for lectures, weddings, and christenings for small groups. Great to see!

The black, pyramid-shaped beacon with a diamond-shaped top mark is located in the east of the island of Baltrum. The three-legged beacon was made entirely of steel and mounted on three concrete foundations. The East Beacon can only be reached on foot on the car-free island.

Some of the furnishings are older than the church itself. The altarpiece includes a chalice donated by Catherine of Sweden, wife of the East Frisian Count Edzard II, between 1559 and 1599. Source: Wikipedia

The benches are not attached to the ground, so you can move them around depending on whether you prefer to look at the harbor or enjoy the sunset.
