Simply beautiful to look at and a great building that has stood for centuries

The chapel housing the Hermitage of Our Lady of Mayran is located on a former Roman villa. It was part of the Abbey of Saint Victor in Marseille and was built during the 12th century in the shape of a Latin cross. It was in the 19th century that a statue of the Virgin Mary was placed above the bell tower, a statue that has since been removed due to a risk of landslide (which also affected the entire building, which is now closed to the public). Since the 17th century, a pilgrimage has been held every first Sunday in May to protect against plague and drought. The small park remains open and invites you to take the time to sit on the benches provided and appreciate the peace and serenity of the place.

Stunning ! Restful, a feeling of peace and fullness in this historic environment. The castle cannot be visited but just the entrance is remarkable. A little history : Bastide dating from the 17th century, restored at the end of the 18th century by Gabriel-Joseph Froment, baron of Castile, who remodeled the old castle in the antique style and populated its park with factories.

Please note: Private property and not accessible, even if this area undoubtedly deserves to be accessible to as many people as possible! A magnificent, astonishing place full of History (the great one) and stories, this building built in the 13th century offers more than 560 square meters of living space (partly decorated by interior designer Dick Dumas), a park of two hectares, a large pond, a caretaker's house and outbuildings. It became the property of the Baron of Castile in the 18th century who breathed new life into it with superb Italian-inspired decorations and colonnades. In 1950 the estate became the property of the legendary British art historian and collector Douglas Cooper, whose close friends included Braque, Léger, Klee, Staël and Picasso. The latter frequented the property assiduously and tried, in vain, to convince Douglas Cooper to sell it to him in 1958. Failing that, he convinced his friend to "give him a wall" for the creation of several murals (engravings on concrete), including one inspired by Manet's "Lunch on the Grass" and another by David's "The Abduction of the Sabines". These frescoes still exist, in very good condition and are classified as Historic Monuments. Very few people have had the chance to see them, like the rest of the castle. There are several videos (made a few years ago when the domain was put up for sale) on the Internet which allow you to appreciate the beauty and richness of this extraordinary site.

The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct located in the south of France, near the city of Nîmes. It was built in the 1st century AD to carry water from the sources of the River Eure to the city of Nîmes, a distance of almost 50 kilometers. The bridge is an exceptional example of Roman engineering, with a system of stone canals that allowed water to be transported a distance of 50 kilometers, across rugged terrain, with a difference in level of only 17 meters. The Pont du Gard is also remarkable for its size and beauty, with its three tiers of arches rising to a height of 49 meters above the River Gardon. The Pont du Gard is today a popular tourist attraction, with a museum that tells the story of the aqueduct's construction and its use. Visitors can also stroll along the bridge, picnic in the surrounding gardens and canoe and kayak in the Gardon River. Sound and light shows are also organized on the bridge in summer. The Pont du Gard has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985 and is one of the most visited sites in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
