Former Verdon Canal

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

This portion of the hiking trail follows the route of the old Verdon canal, which was in service from 1875 to the 1980s. The canal was used at the time to carry water to the villages, as well as to the farming lands. Today, the path has been laid out and allows you to hike as close as possible to the Verdon. Nice place, picnic area with a view of the lake. Unfortunately, most of the restaurants were closed at the beginning of October.

MAGNIFICENT 2nd mountain bike outing for our Thalasso and mountain bike holidays (happiness) in Gréoux les Bains. We left Saint Julien le Montagnier, heading towards Lake Esparron through the mountain! This is a course that should be classified as a MUST-SEE!! Paths, diverse and varied landscapes are magnificent and a superb view of Lake Esparron. Do not take into account wet weather and also electric mountain bikes because there are steep passages where you have to carry the mountain bike and it is quite dangerous. We had a great day, and after the effort we had a massage for comfort!

A good point for views of the Verdon flowing through the gorge here. On the other side of the bridge you can rent kayaks to sail through the canyon. Walk along the water into the gorge to follow the GR99, a long distance hiking trail. Here you can make a walk along the water and through the forest.
