Frankenbourg Castle has been officially closed since April 2025 due to rockfall. You can only get within a few hundred meters. Unfortunately, due to the dense forest, you can't see it. Instead, I recommend the southern Chateau de Saint Ulrich, which is a lovely hike from Ribeauville.

The entire loop is not suitable for beginners, it is not easy for all fitness levels since most of the trail contains rocks and gravel. A lot of uphill hiking with some strenuously narrow paths. I would categorize the hike as "intermediate"

From its height of 702 meters, Chalmont offers a beautiful view of Lièpvre, at the beginning of the Val d'Argent. To enjoy the panorama, a pretty little path provides access to a rocky promontory.

Unfortunately there is no water here. But the hut has a room with a table and benches and a separate level bedroom. It has a door that can be closed. The hut looks neat. In front of the hut are two picnic tables.
