Very nice people and an excellent chocolate cake. Just the thing after a tough climb. The refuge is also often used by hikers as an overnight accommodation.

The refuge feels more primative and simple than other staffed refuges along the Coronallacs trail around Andorra. The staff have curated a great space and as a solo traveller I had some great conversations with like minded people from all over Europe here. Luckily I was in a 9-bed dorm with only 2 other hikers so it wasn't too busy. The refuge is cash only and has no Wifi (although I did get sufficient mobile data signal here). It was 3 or 4 Euros for a shower token. Dinner was pasta bake followed by sausage, rice and green beans and half a tinned peach for dessert.

The lake is at 2296m next to an unmanned shelter. It is the smallest lake in Andorra with a hydraulic dam. This was built between 1935 and 1936.

If you want to stay overnight here, you should arrive at the Refugi as early as possible, otherwise the best places will be taken. The bunk beds all have 3 floors and in some rooms there is very little space up to the ceiling (sometimes further restricted by the steel beams of the roof structure). Also good to know: some fishermen from the area are regular guests here and permanently occupy beds in some rooms, often together with their dogs; If you're unlucky (we've been told of nights with up to 5 dogs in the room) it can get quite stuffy/musty in the rooms, which are quite small. Apart from the room situation, the refuge is very nicely located and if you want, you can take a swim around the lake (be careful, it's cold, but in doubt it's also an alternative to the paid shower).
