The greenway from St-Giron to Foix (which I always did in the direction Foix to St-Giron) is the most beautiful part of the greenway which in total goes to (almost) Boussens. It is a slightly hilly section with the most beautiful landscapes!

Hello everyone, I'm from Ariège, I decided this year to do the greenway with my dog Emy in both directions. It's a very beautiful walk, however there are some black points: lack of stone benches to deter potential thieves, and on the other hand the large Rimont tunnel which is 803 m long there is no more light. The motion detector does not work. Luckily that day I had my flashlight with me. There is horse excrement everywhere, perhaps one day we will have to ask the riders to pick up their droppings. It's a very beautiful walk.

You'll find a variety of outdoor attractions, including scenic cycle paths along former railway lines, challenging mountain passes, and tranquil forest trails offering splendid views.
Yes, the region offers several family-friendly options. The Foix–Saint-Girons Greenway and the V81 Greenway Tunnels (Saint-Girons – Foix) are excellent choices. These cycle paths follow old railway lines, making them relatively flat and accessible for families. Visitors often describe them as nice walks to do with family.

For more challenging rides, the Péguère Pass offers significant climbs. There are also numerous gravel biking routes available, such as those found in the Gravel biking around Montels guide.
Absolutely. The Péguère Pass is a notable mountain pass known for its challenging climbs and is a favorite among cycling enthusiasts, including those who follow the Tour de France. It's described as a 'mythical wall' with steep sections.
The region boasts dense forests and mountainous landscapes. You can experience superb views of the surrounding mountains, particularly along trails like the Forest Road of the Consulat de Foix State Forest. The area offers a tranquil, natural setting for exploration.
Yes, the Forest Road of the Consulat de Foix State Forest provides a quiet route through the forest with minimal traffic and splendid views. For more dedicated walking or running, you can find various trails in the Running Trails around Montels guide, including greenway loops.
Visitors generally appreciate the greenways for their scenic beauty and accessibility. The Foix–Saint-Girons Greenway is noted for its pleasant sections, often shaded, with tunnels that are lit for passage. While some sections might have a poor surface, the overall experience is considered very nice for walks and rides, especially the stretch between Saint-Girons and Foix.
The Col de Légrillou (938 m) is described as a 'wild pass in the heart of the Ariège forest' and is considered very pleasant but little known. It serves as a gateway to a forest road crossing the national forest of the Consulate of Foix, offering tranquility and fresh air.
Given the mountainous terrain and challenging climbs, the best time to visit Montels for outdoor activities like cycling and hiking is typically from spring through early autumn (roughly April to October). During these months, the weather is generally more favorable, and mountain passes are clear of snow, allowing for full access to trails and routes.
Yes, there are several mountain biking trails in the vicinity. You can find routes ranging from moderate to difficult, such as the 'Greenway departure parking lot loop from Serres-sur-Arget' or the 'Cap du Carmil – Col de Légrillou loop'. The Forest Road of the Consulat de Foix State Forest is highlighted for its 'splendid views of the surrounding mountains'. Many of the mountain passes and forest trails will offer panoramic vistas of the Ariège landscape.
While the greenways are generally accessible, specific information on public transport directly to all attractions is limited. For the V81 Greenway Tunnels, the departure after Saint-Girons can be poorly indicated, suggesting that personal transport might offer more flexibility for reaching trailheads.
