Established in an old meander of the Doux, on a small rocky prominence, the castle of Retourtour is located in a valley floor that allowed it to control the route connecting the Rhône valley to Puy en Velay, via the Doux valley. Likely built in the 10th century by the Pagan-Retourtour family, its name is derived from the Latin "Retortoris" because of the peninsula formed by the river. https://www.lamastreassociationrad.fr/le-chateau-de-retourtour-a-lamastre/

The Chapel of Mounens (Saint-Basile) In reality, this is not the original Saint-Basile Chapel, but the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul Church of Mounens, in which a Gothic chapel adjoining the sacristy was built in the 13th–14th centuries. This chapel was erected above a burial vault intended for the lords of Maisonseule.

Unfortunately, the restaurant in front of the ruins as well as the pizzeria and bar at the campsite were closed in the afternoon at the end of June.

The small swimming lake in the village of Retourtour is there thanks to the minimal damming of the Doux river. Even a small pebble / sand beach was created - the perfect spot to refresh yourself during a bike tour. Nearby you can also admire the ruins of an old castle, which are now completely overgrown with plants.
