The Meloner Au is one of the most beautiful high moor areas and is located at 850 to 890 meters with its moors, forest and wet meadows. With 163.2 ha, the area was placed under nature protection in 1992. It is a mix of different high, transitional and low moors, which are spread over a quiet forest area. The climate here is harsh, damp and cold. Annual precipitation 900 to 1000 mm. Large temperature differences, shortened vegetation period, risk of frost even in summer. There are black stork, capercaillie, black grouse and hazel grouse, lapwing, hawk, sparrow hawk, black, grey, green and spotted woodpecker, hoopoe, eagle owl, long-eared owl, owls and much more. Important visitor information: to protect nature, the Meloner Au is only open to hikers from June 20th to November 30th (due to the breeding and breeding season of chickens). There are also guided moor hikes.
