Kahla is located on the former trade route from Nuremberg to Naumburg and at the foot of the Leuchtenburg, which can be seen from afar. The city was first mentioned in documents in 876. Since then it has survived several fires, wars and floods. The almost completely preserved city wall with medieval buildings, city gates and towers bears witness to its eventful past. Kahla has been a porcelain town with tradition since 1844. Since the political change in 1989, the image of the former agricultural town has increasingly changed. Streets, medieval buildings and the city wall are being restored through construction and renovation work.
